Campbell Lane
The source of this road name is said to be Robert Campbell, a Partner at Martin Dyce & Co. in the 1870s and a member of the Legislative Council for about two years from 1878 to 1880. He passed away in England shortly after leaving Singapore in 1881. Martin Dyce & Co. ceased operations in 1885.
Campbell Lane is one of four parallel roads in Kampong Kapor with the other three roads named after senior colonial officals involved with the annexation of the Native States of Malaysa. The other three roads are Dunlop Street, Weld Road and Dickson Road. Therefore, Campbell Lane may be named after George W. Robert Campbell, the Acting Lieutenant Governor of Penang from 1872 to 1873. He was a key person in the settlement of the Larut War in Perak and was made a C.M.G. in 1887 for his services during this period.
